Amplifiers A power amplifier drives PA speakers. The higher the rated power of the amplifier, the more power it can deliver into the speakers. As a general rule of thumb, the continuous output of the amplifier should be 1-2 times the continuous rating of the speakers. Remember that the output of the amplifier is affected by the speakers impedance - the higher the impedance, the lower the delivered power.
When comparing different amplifiers, always compare like for like - continuous output power per channel into a 4 ohm load is a good comparison. 'Peak' or 'Music' power on amplifier specs are usually meaningless, placed by the manufacturers to make budget amplifiers look more powerful than they are.
